Our bioengineering capabilities allow us to design new tools and technologies for use in the field and postharvest.

We have researchers with specialist skills in the non-destructive testing of fruits and food products, near infrared spectroscopy and associated chemometrics as well as low-cost volatiles sensing, dispensing and disinfestation technologies.

Plant & Food Research operates full engineering facilities including design, mechanical construction, electronics and software development capabilities, and has the capacity to design and build systems ranging from miniature instruments to large-scale factory machinery.

Our engineering facilities are complemented by integration with optics laboratories, fruit testing and handling facilities, as well as a range of analytical and chemistry laboratories.
