Discovery for Impact

Our Discovery for Impact Group focuses on fundamental science with the aim of accelerating the time it takes to develop new plant cultivars. The Group builds an understanding of the genes responsible for key production and consumer traits, using model plants and other techniques, and the mechanisms that influence these traits. We also identify the corresponding genes in commercially important crops and isolate the different alleles that exist in our germplasm collections.

The Discovery for impacts Group is based across three scientific sites – Auckland, Palmerston North and Lincoln.
