Lovely but Lethal

Bright colouring signals the effects of disease in blueberry leaves. The disease, called leaf rust, is caused by a fungal infection. Affected leaves have reduced photosynthetic abilities and severe infection can reduce yield.

Our scientists are looking at ways to combat leaf rust and other plant diseases through the use of enhanced crop management systems, resistant cultivars and non-chemical control agents.
