Our germplasm collection

Our germplasm collection has more than 500 varieties of apple with unique genetic profiles. This allows us to identify trees with characteristics of interest, such as colour or disease resistance, for use as parents in the breeding programme. By having access to the range of different alleles for genes of interest we can also identify the molecular mechanisms controlling them and create markers to speed up the selection of parents and new cultivars with commercial potential.
