Prebiotics and probiotics
Probiotics are live micro-organisms which, when administered in an adequate amount, are beneficial to human health. Ensuring the organism reaches the site of action, for example, travels through the digestive tract to the intestines, is key to its activity.
Prebiotics are food sources used by naturally-occurring gut bacteria (or probiotics), resulting in an improved, healthier balance of bacteria in the digestive system. Prebiotics are usually undigestible carbohydrates or fibre that pass through the digestive system without being digested.
