Inheritance testing

Table showing an example of compariso between male and female plants

By studying the offspring of crosses across a combination of male and female plants, each parent can be given a “score” for the trait, for example from high (5) to low (1). This will allow breeders to identify the female and male plants with the highest scores to become the preferred parents in the breeding programme for that trait, and to identify the most promising candidates from the best combinations.
