Currant clearwing

Currant Clearwing (Synanthedon tipuliformis) larvae feed on Ribes species, including blackcurrants, redcurrants and gooseberries. The adult moth lays eggs on the buds and canes of the plant, and when the larvae hatch they bury into the canes to feed. This weakens canes and reduces plant food reserves, reducing fruit yield and quality and can shorten the life of the plant by many years.
